Buhari to visit Lagos Nov. 27 for the commissioning of 3 helicopters purchased by LASG for security mgt
President Buhari will on Friday November 27th visit Lagos state for the formal commissioning of three helicopters, patrol vehicles, power bikes and other security gadgets acquired by Governor Ambode-led administration to beef up security in the state through the Rapid Response Squad.
In a press release issued by the State's Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, President Buhari will be the special guest of honour at the ceremony which will hold at the Lagos House, Alausa in Ikeja.
The statement went further to state that Buhari's visit would further witness the rebranding of the RRS as the state’s no-nonsense police response squad against crime and criminality. Buhari will also join Governor Ambode in handing over the brand new patrol equipment to the Police authorities in the state. The equipment to be handed over include: three helicopters, two patrol boats, 100 motorcycles, 13 BM power bikes, 60 Ford salon cars, 55 Ford Rangers, 40 Toyota salon cars, 10 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, 31 Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) as well as police uniforms and other kits.
"With these security equipment, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has demonstrated his firm commitment and ability to safeguard the lives and property of every Lagosian. The government is convinced this gesture will further boost the morale and capacity of the Police, RRS and other security agencies in the state. It is an attestation to the efficacy of the state’s Security Trust Fund and we believe that this will send a clear signal that criminals and armed robbers no longer have hiding place in the state as government will spare no effort in ridding the state of every form of criminality," he said.
The statement added that the deployment of the security gadgets would further complement the efforts of the State Government in making the state a mega city that is working for all and sundry. "It is noteworthy that the Lagos State Government has stepped up its enforcement of traffic laws and declared zero tolerance on potholes on the roads, a decision that has brought to 282 the number of roads so far rehabilitated in the past five months while another set of 189 roads has been marked for repairs before the end of the year,"

Cassie and Kim Porter still fighting over Diddy…? Lol
Kim has three kids with Diddy and has known him for about 18 years now, while Cassie has been Diddy's main squeeze for a while now. Over the weekend, Diddy celebrated his 46th birthday bash where Cassie was conspicuously absent and Kim was happily posing on the red carpet with her baby daddy. It looks like the two women are still fighting over Diddy.
At the same time Kim was busy posting photos of herself and Diddy at the party on her instagram page, Cassie and her girlfriend were cryptically posting about things not being what they seemed.

Chris Oyakhilome facing trouble in South Africa over money he makes there

Chris Oyakhilome facing trouble in South Africa over money he makes there Chris Oyakhilome is facing trouble in South Africa after refusing to comply with government orders to release his financial records. According to a report in News 24 , several prominent church leaders have not adhered to the demands of the South African Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities.
The Commission, led by Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva is investigating the commercialisation of religion and the abuse of people's beliefs within South Africa, where Christ Embassy has several branches.
“These people take money from people. What are they doing with that money? We want to know. We will not back down,” she said.
All those summoned to the hearings are required to produce their ordination certificate, the church registration certificate, bank statements and the annual financial statements dating from 2012.
“Some of these religious leaders will face prison if they do not comply and we have been clear about our course of action," she insisted.
Mkhwanazi-Xaluva singled out Oyakhilome, stating that he insisted he would fight the commission in court before releasing his records.
“If he intends on that route, we are ready. He will have to face the same fate as the others who refuse to hand over their financial records,” she said.
In contrast, a source who attended the hearing of South African Bishop Stephen Zondo, stated that Mkhwanazi-Xaluva cited an equally controversial Nigerian megachurch leader, T.B. Joshua, as an example of one who openly used his finances to assist the less-privileged, something she expected of all clergy.

Funmi Iyanda's inspiring speech at University of Cumbria. "Growing up, I was an impoverished skinny girl with fat dreams"
Funmi Iyanda was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the University of Cumbria in recognition of her significant global contribution to human rights and sustainability. Below is her Investiture Address:
Vice-Chancellor, University Staff, Distinguished Guests, Graduates, Ladies and Gentlemen, family and friends, thank you so much for those kind words and indeed for this wonderful honour. I’m very grateful, not just for this invitation to be an Honorary Fellow, but to be invited to share it with so many gifted individuals that it’s been my pleasure to meet today.
This fellowship is important to me because my father always wanted me to be a medical doctor, since that wasn’t happening l thought l’d get a doctorate to please him but l never got round to it so perhaps he’d posthumously accept this in lieu. Also l have never worn a graduation gown, so it was on my bucket list. This lovely university is close to my heart because it has educated some of the people dearest to me, accepted my country men and women with warmth and provided me great opportunities to share my rather skewed world view. I am excited at the prospects of future opportunities for mis-education that this fellowship will mean. Now let me share a few stories with you because stories are nice.
Nothing ever went the way I planned, well almost nothing. I had planned to torment my mother with teenager angst, but she died before I turned ten, ruining that excellent plan. At the beginning of this year I planned a major cinema project, a new TV show and a fashion school but then I fell very sick, ruining that senseless plan.
Last week my over-thinking 14 year old daughter Morenike asked if I thought there was an afterlife. I told her I doubted it but feel that, in much the same way our current existence makes little rational sense and we cope without prior prep, so will we cope in an afterlife without further prep from here on were such an afterlife to exist.
It must be my week of pointless questions because my friend John Maclean, the kindest misanthrope in the world, also asked how I have been able to do so many outstanding things despite limitations and setbacks. Because I like to confound him with Nigerian idioms, I told him the saying, “when in soup, lick it,” because I knew the idea of licking soup off one’s body would undo his tidy mind.
Growing up, I was an impoverished skinny girl with fat dreams. Naturally there was a lot of frustration but there was also a lot of going to markets because well my mother was dead and I was the oldest and only female child so I did most of the cooking. I developed a love for markets and a dislike for my aunt who always responded to all my frustrations with a non-committal “ona kan o woja” (there is no one route into the market). I could be discussing quantum physics with her and at my most perplexed point, she´d say but “Aduke ona kan o woja.”
It took years for me to understand that she was trying to teach me to repudiate ideology and dogma in favour of adaptability, functionality and multiplicity.
In my culture, getting good education is non-negotiable so l was determined to go to university. I worked 3 jobs from age 15 to save up for university. When l walked into the lush fields of the prestigious university of Ibadan in Nigeria, l kissed the grass and shed tears. Four years later when l walked out, l didn’t even bother to collect my certificate. In my second year of university l had also walked out of the church of my youth. Granted l was tired of the virginity requirement, being unaware that l could have lied about that like many wiser than me had. I walked out really because l was no longer convinced about the infallibility of the one way, the true way, the only way.
I had begun to discover that for many things there are many ways, particularly for markets.
I like markets, it is a place of human interaction, of pride in one’s product and hopefully fair exchange of products for needs.
Good markets have clear functional rules that allow fair and equitable exchange. When kingdoms seek to overtake another, they break their markets and militarily surround them. Breaking markets is symbolic of a suspension of respect for negotiation, interaction and fairness. A conviction that one’s way is best and others are best following that one way. You may recognise that principle in modern foreign diplomacy as “our interests”.
I hated school but loved education, I wanted to know things and discover things not be told things.
I wanted to be a writer but I didn’t see how writers got paid , since I hated asking anyone for money, I decided I’d be a journalist but my father wanted me to be a doctor because well, everybody’s father wanted them to be a doctor, also my father wished he was a doctor.
He said doctors made money and were respected; journalists just get blown up or become impoverished.
My father ate his words before he died five years ago, not because I didn’t get blown up, but because he liked to eat and words are nice.
So as a journalist, I saw and reviewed the world. Recently a friend asked me what I thought about modern civilisation and I answered that we may have made magical technological leaps but I doubt that we have a civilisation. More importantly I have begun to think that a lot of what we know may not have been completely unknown to past generations; I am alarmingly beginning to suspect they chose not to unleash some of that knowledge because they recognised our interest must align with the earth’s interest.
I have always thought that the greatest tragedy of civilisations lost around the world to slavery, colonization and oppression is deprivation of our modern civilization of alternative political, cultural and economic thought and systems, some of which were very sophisticated.
My mind boggles when l listen to my friend Dr Bibi Bakare-Yusuf talk about the documented seven different pre-colonial forms of marriages in Yoruba culture. A culture evolved enough to be gender neutral without sloganizing.
So as I stand today in this gorgeous cathedral, suffused with a sense of history, of wonder and respect for those who have gone before us. Monuments like this emphasize how great our individual capacity is within the limit of our role in a never ending continuum of human endeavour.
The challenge with a winner takes all, one way to the market, best way to be approach is that it leaves too many behind and gives those lucky enough to fall within a narrow accepted box an over inflated sense of importance and a genuine lack of ability to solve unknown problems. Everyone ends up playing a role rather than living a life whether it is in marriages, parliament or academia. This does not make for responsive, adaptive and happy living. We are best when we are intelligent forces at play. Responsive, adaptive, artistic, functional and magical.
We are at a time of unknown problems with leaders schooled to solve known problems without the education to be robust in world view and a distracting pressure to perform to the lights rather than function in spaces of wisdom and introspection.
This is however not as scary as it may sound because when things no longer respond to plan, no matter how we posture or fight, it may be that we are in a large vat of soup with nothing but ourselves. It may be time to start licking that soup, not a very aesthetically pleasing solution, certainly not meant for TV but l bet it’ll be great on you-tube after all there is no one way to the market.
What is the point of education if smart people can’t find those alternative routes to the market?
That is my challenge to a new generation of leaders, thinkers and doers."

Calabar Carnival: Fanfare as Gov Ayade unveils 2015 theme

Calabar Carnival: Fanfare as Gov Ayade unveils 2015 theme
When the annual Carnival Calabar and Festival returns this December, the fear of whether or not the Professor Ben Ayade-led government of Cross River State would sustain the annual event will not only be over, revelers will have more to thank the new government for.
Governor Ayade announced at a glamorous unveiling of the 2015 edition of Carnival Calabar theme tagged ‘Climate Change’, that the carnival can only get better with additional activities and restyling of the old ones, revealing that Bikers Day and Disco Fiesta are part of the new offerings this year.
The event which took place at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos had dignitaries from the Corporate Nigeria, the United States Embassy in Nigeria, actors, actresses and several investors.
Governor Ayade whet the appetite of many at the event, while marketing what has come to be known as the best tourism destination in Nigeria, with oratory prowess.
The 2015 edition of the December festival will be the first to be organised by Ayade, who took over from former governor, Senator Liyel Imoke. The
festival was founded by Imoke’s predecessor, Mr. Donald Duke in 2004.
At the end of the presentation Sunday night, many applauded the festival initiative as Progress in Running.
Ayade who enjoined all to be a part of this year’s
festival, revealed that Carnival bands from 14 countries will be performing this year, while the notable children Carnival has also been repackaged to take the form of family funfair.
He surprised many when he invited all the Beauty Queens at the event to the stage, and enlisted them automatically as members of a new band called the Governor’s Band. “Irrespective of their states of origin, they represent the beauty, elegance, style and class of the average Cross River youth,” said the governor.
The Cross River helmsman who also announced plans to set up ‘the biggest garment factory’ in Nigeria on December 15, said there is need to localise the production of the costumes used during the event, as a business angle to the
festival.
The governor assured of security, praising the State as having the lowest crime rate in Nigeria. “Our people are emotional stable and content with what they have. However, s full team of security will be mobilised for the festival,” he said.
Guests at the unveiling include comic actor John Okafor, aka Mr. Ibu, sonorous singer, Waje, CEO of EbonyLife TV, Mo Abudu, Dance Hall singer, Patoranking, reggae artiste Blackie, Olu Maintain, Kce and actors Enyinna Nwigwe and Elvis Chuks.

Stripper attacks man after he tells her to lose weight

A South Carolina stripper attacked a man after he didn't want her to take off her clothes — he wanted her to lose weight.
The Derrieres Gentlemen's Club stripper had heard enough out of Kyle Yeoman, 23, after he told her, "go to the gym and lose weight" early Sunday morning, according to documents obtained by The Smoking Gun.
After he gave some dumbbell advice, she lunged off the stage and punched him in the face four times, causing visible injuries from the ring on her fists, the thin-minded strip club patron told Myrtle Beach police. A bouncer then dragged him out the club and roughed him up as well, according to the police report.
Yeoman told police he had harassed the stripper about her weight because she was annoying him.
"She kept trying to talk to him and he was tired of it," the police report read.
He also blamed the insults on the alcohol, telling police he was at "an 11 out of 10" level of drunk.
The strip club victim waited about 17 hours after to call cops, but stressed that he did not want to press charges and only sought a police report. He identified the girl as a white woman, weighing 115-120 pounds with "a muffin top."
A friend who was a witness at the strip club said he saw Yeoman getting clobbered by the stripper, but did not hear the weight comment being made.
Cops tried getting the stripper's side of the story, but found that the gentlemen's club was closed. The strip club could not be reached for comment.

What would you do if you saw a £50,000 diamond ring on the ground?

What would you do if you saw a £50,000 diamond ring on the ground?
A passer-by who found a massive diamond ring worth £50,000-£80,000 outside a Nando’s returned it to its owner in what he described as ‘a fairytale ending’.
The finder, Andy, saw the ring's massive stones sparkling on the ground and decided to do the honourable thing and try to find the owner.
He launched a Facebook campaign to find who he described as the no-doubt ‘distraught owner’ of the ring, and today he met up with the older lady who it belonged to and returned it to her.
Andy said:
‘It’s a fairytale ending and shows just how much good social media can do. I feel like I have done my good deed for the year.’
Andy, 31, a consultant, was contacted by the owner earlier yesterday after he launched a Facebook campaign to find her and an article appeared on MailOnline.
He got into a taxi to meet her and the relative at a London jeweler and staff verified insurance records she held for the ring that proved it belonged to her.
Andy has no idea what the ring is worth but an independent jeweler who saw pictures of the ring on social media said the main stone was as big as 3.5 carats
Sharon Sheard, manager of Hatton Jewels Ltd in London qualified with the Gemological Institute Of America, said that if the ring was to be sold, she believes it could be worth £50,000-£80,000 if the stones in the pictures are diamonds.
He said:
‘I have lost my phone four or five times and mentioned it on social media. Every time I have had it returned to me – it’s like a boomerang.’
Andy said he found the ring in the early hours of the morning outside Nando’s after a night out with friends in the area, spotting it 'sparkling' on the ground.
He said:
'I was stumbling home and thought I might pass some fast food joints seeing what tickled my fancy and it was freezing so I decided to hot-foot it home.
'I was hunched up with my head down trying to stay warm, and just caught a glint.
'I always considered myself quite lucky at finding a pound coin on the floor.'
The next day he launched the campaign to find the ring and in the hilarious Facebook post talking about finding the ring:
The same day he launched the campaign, someone got in touch to say that they had found the owner, who he went to meet.
Andy added: 'She was overjoyed because she had been upset and doesn’t want any attention, but she was very, very pleased to have it back.'

Dad who killed paedophile for taking pictures of his children avoids jail
A millionaire who punched a paedophile to death after seeing him take pictures of his young daughter is to be spared jail.
Dad-of-three Devinder Kainth was sentenced to six months after admitting the manslaughter of Sandro Rottman at a restaurant in the upmarket resort of Sotogrande, Spain.
But the sentence is to be suspended as he made a deal with prosecutors – and first offenders in Spain are normally not jailed unless they are given two years or more.
And it emerged Kainth, an estate agent, may even end up being let off with just a fine after his lawyer appealed.
A source said: “Mr Kainth feels aggrieved as prosecutors offered him a suspended jail term replaceable by a fine.
“He agreed but the judge said the law had changed and the swap was off. Now he wants the deal of a fine he was offered.”
Rottman, 43, died in hospital after the attack in the Spinnaker Restaurant. Kainth, 39 – out for a meal with partner Gemma Hawkins and their children – turned violent after finding snaps of his kids on the computer programmer’s iPad.
Rottman, a German was facing trial at the time over child porn on his computer.
Judge Raquel Gomez Sancho, who sentenced Kainth after the deal, ruled Rottman’s health problems from heavy drinking had contributed to his death.

NDLEA boss urges improvement in service
The outgoing Chairman, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ahmadu Giade, who quit the position on Wednesday, handed over to the Director General of the agency, Mrs. Roli Bode-George, as the acting chairman and said the agency needs to improve its service.
Speaking after a parade at the agency’s headquarters in Lagos, Giade said:
“I am leaving the agency better than I met it 10 years ago. My greatest legacy is my zero tolerance for corruption. If we must continue to dislodge drug barons and eradicate drugs from our society, we must remain forthright and committed to drug control programmes.
“I am leaving behind a legacy of proactive and intelligence-led organisation. The agency under my watch has a representative at INTERPOL headquarters and has successfully raised the international profile of the country through unprecedented seizures of drugs and arrest of drug barons.”
He urged the new leadership to make welfare of officers a priority.

Man who killed his wife and posted a photo of the bloody corpse on FB is convicted of murder

A Florida man who killed his wife and posted a photo of the bloody corpse on Facebook was convicted Wednesday of second-degree murder after failing to convince a jury that he shot her eight times in self-defense.
Jurors found 33-year old Derek Medina guilty of 2nd degree murder, shooting a deadly missile and child neglect. However, the jury did not believe he pre-planned the murder of his 27-year-old wife Jennifer Alfonso. Either way, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Medina did not wince as he learned the jury’s verdict which could put him in prison for 25 years to life.
Before the verdict was finished being read, Medina whispered to his attorney, Saam Zanganeh. Zanganeh told CBS4’s Natalia Zea, “Interesting reaction, it was an interesting reaction… I’m going to leave it at that, but it was an interesting reaction. Something I didn’t expect.”
Alfonso’s mother Caroline Knox, did not show emotion either, until the moment, when she hugged the lead investigator in the case.
“There’s nothing good to say about this situation. It’s a horrible situation. There’s no happy ending. There’s no happy ending,” said Knox, through tears.
It took the jury six and a half hours to come to the conclusion that Medina murdered Alfonso, and neglected her 10-year old daughter by locking her in the home while her mother lay dead.
Zanganeh said they respect the jury’s verdict but plan to appeal it.
“From the inception, I never thought this was a first-degree murder case. I never thought it,” said Zanganeh. “If we’re able to get a new trial or if there are appellate issues then this is something he has to look forward to.”
Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle called the conviction a relief and a victory for her office and Alfonso’s family. She believes Medina created additional pain by posting the picture of Alfonso’s corpse on Facebook.
“To then post it on the internet for the world to see, and for the daughter to know that the world has seen the tragic way in which her mother was murdered…It’s heartless,” said Fernandez Rundle.
The jurors rushed out of the courthouse following the announcement of the verdict. One juror said, “another day in paradise” about his time in deciding Medina’s fate.
Medina did not testify in his own defense during the trial. He reportedly confessed to killing Alfonso, in their South Miami home on August 8th, 2013. He then posted the picture of her bloody body with a caption that read, in part: “I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife.”
The defense maintained Medina had shot his wife in self defense. They claimed he was verbally and physically abused by his wife on a regular basis.
Medina’s sentencing is scheduled for January 11th. Fernandez Rundle says she will seek the maximum sentence, life in prison.
